Retirement Villages NSW
New South Wales harbors the densest concentration of retirement villages; about 700 of this kind are situated in NSW. Albeit private villages comprise only about 15% of these figures, these communities are usually larger than their non-profit counterparts. The state is home to approximately 35,000 residents who age 70-75 years on the average. Over 80% of residents are female. On the other hand, couples only compose 10 % of the population.
Between 200 and 250 of the retirement villages offer “three-level care”. Relative to an assessment in accordance with Commonwealth Government laws, a village resident may be eligible for an access to hostel or nursing home accommodation.
The state’s new Retirement Villages Act emphasizes disclosure to prospective residents, preventing operators from using proxies and powers of attorney to manipulate residents and recognizes the right of residents to form residents’ committees.
